Community Conferencing

This project is designed to address the alienation, damage, disrespect, and disempowerment communities feel when a crime is committed.  Restorative Justice, the philosophy utilized in this project, recognizes the harm in a criminal act and how it violates individuals, families, and communities.

Communities are directly affected by an offense but are often neglected by “state justice.”  This project allows everyone to have a voice in telling their story and making decisions.  Offenders are held accountable and encouraged to understand the impact of their behavior and the harm they have done.  A space is created in which harm can be clearly identified and acknowledged without diminishing the offender’s value or integrity of self.
